The Beginning

My obsession with food began a little over a year ago when I escaped my comfortable bubble in Philadelphia and ventured to Florence, Italy to study abroad for the Fall Semester. Upon my arrival, I immediately became fascinated with the city’s rich culinary history. The distinctive scents of Italian meats and cheeses wafting through the sticky, hot September air fully engulfed me. There was no turning back - - - my love affair with food was underway.

Within my first week of living in this unknown city, I was determined to try multiple paninis... and I sure was successful. Each tiny salumeria had its own special charm, which was directly reflected in the nuances of its panino.

Before I realized it, I had an expansive collection of photos of Italian food. As I planned my travels to other countries, I would look forward to researching the top locations where I could taste the best local food. It would be these moments - sampling the regional specialities, surrounded by family and friends - that would define my study abroad experience.
